A few words about us
Let us introduce ourselves
The Acorn group of companies was originally founded by Andrew and Rebecca Nutter in 1996 to provide system scaffold solutions to the construction industry.
From its inception Acorn received enquires from event companies to supply temporary scaffolding solutions and in 2006 took the decision to launch a standalone event oriented company to service this activity.
Since then the new operation has grown from strength to strength and now has sub-divisions dedicated to scaffold, staging and bespoke structures and continually invests in developing and refining products for the event industry.
Acorn’s aims are to provide a world-class service to all projects and deliver excellent value for money. These virtues have attracted a number of prestigious clients across all facets of the live event industry including blue-chip companies, marketing agencies, local councils, production companies and organising committees.
As one of the UK’s largest privately owned event solutions and scaffolding companies Acorn are the market leaders in this niche sector.
As we enter 2018 we have updated our sales brochure to reflect some of the amazing stages, bespoke builds and other unique products that Acorn Event Structures have produced for our clients over the course of 2017 and years previous.

As part of our commitment to delivering high quality products and outstanding customer service, we are active members of a number of industry bodies to ensure these standards are maintained:
The National Outdoor Events Association is the UK’s leading outdoor events trade association. The association is dedicated to enhancing professionalism in the outdoor events industry through education, networking, lobbying, advice and creating business opportunities.
The PSA is the trade association for companies and individuals involved in the live event production industry. Our aim is to represent, improve, educate and develop the business of technical production for live events. This is achieved by pooling the knowledge of the entire industry to create a single voice for the industry and a central resource for its members.
We are committed to delivering the highest level of health and safety. We employ an independent health & safety specialist, Stallard Kane, to ensure that at all levels and at all times we meet industry and statutory regulations, both on site and in our offices. We have also achieved accreditation for the following quality standards:
• ISO 9001 – Quality Management
• OHSAS 18001 – Occupational Health & Safety
NASC (National Access & Scaffolding Confederation)
The NASC is recognised as the national trade body for access and scaffolding in the UK, producing a wide range of industry guidance for scaffolding contractors, their operatives and their clients.
Members of the NASC are strictly regulated to ensure a continuous high standard of scaffolding practice.
CHAS (Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme)
CHAS is established as the market leader for health and safety pre-qualification in the UK. It is a non-commercial scheme available to suppliers and to buyers looking for suitably competent suppliers.
As the UK’s largest register for pre-qualified contractors and consultants, Construction Line assesses and pre-qualifies its members ensuring clients can be assured that a Construction Line member is reputable and reliable.
Acorn have been working closely with Layher as a partner for over 15 years and their product range is integrated into every staging and scaffold structure we deploy.
As a group of companies we have invested over £15m in the Layher system and believe it offers significant advantages over alternative scaffold solutions, particularly in relation to the event industry:
- Over 60 years experience in the manufacturing high quality and practically tested scaffolding systems
- Event oriented equipment designed and manufactured to the highest quality
- Fully engineered solution compliant with national and international standards and regulations
- Fewer components & simple connection detail, minimising installation times
- Modular and adaptable system which can be applied to a wide variety of event applications
How it Works
The Layher Allround system is versatile enough to offer event solutions for the most demanding and challenging projects. At the heart of the original Layher Allround Scaffolding system is the ‘Allround Connector’. The design features a ‘rosette’ welded onto the upright component, which can safely and securely accommodate eight individual connections.
Developed for one-man assembly, irrespective of height, stages, platforms and bases can then be constructed in all three dimensions from each rosette. The design allows ledgers or transoms to be connected at right angles with additional components then fixed at variable angles with each stage automatically centered and correctly located for safe assembly.
“Right from the pitch process onwards, Acorn just ‘got it’, they listened carefully to our brief and tailored their structural staging solution around our requirements to create an outstanding unique experience for our audience – they definitely delivered what they promised at pitch stage, paying great attention to the fine details, incorporating last minute changes on site with a can-do attitude that exceeded our expectations.”
Ian Greenway, Director, LarMac LIVE

From conception to delivery, we have always found the Acorn team to be safety aware and technically excellent . What’s more, the delivery team on site always go over and above to fulfil our client expectations. Here at De Boer, we recently reviewed our sub contractors and , without exception, all our foreman enjoy working with the Acorn product and team on site.”
David Tunnicliffe Special Projects Manager, De Boer
“Acorn Event Structures have been a superb supplier of weather cover and hoist gantries for a recent storyline. We requested a high level gantry able to suspend a combined weight of 4 tons, over performing actors, also a full 360 degree weather cover was required on top and around the structure, to allow filming to continue. From the initial briefing meeting to the final production meeting their knowledge and product was First Class. In the making of TV Programmes, last minute amendments and changes of schedules are standard, Acorn Event Structures were able to successfully attend to all our requests without hesitation. Fantastic.”
Martin Radmall, Production Buyer, ITV Studios

“As the dust settles a bit I wanted to pass our thanks on to yourselves and everyone else at Acorn for your help on Empire Strikes Back. Your speed of delivery, flexibility through the changes and willingness to act quickly and efficiently made a huge difference to us in the delivery of a show which should have been simple, but somehow kept surprising us. It’s been a great help to know we can pick up the phone and get anything actioned immediately and the speed and lack of fuss from your site team has been a breath of fresh air.”

“From the Events team here at Leeds City Council it’s a big thank you Andy and staff. Once again you have worked with us to bring outstanding events to the city centre of Leeds. Without the help of Acorn’s dedicated production teams with their flexible approach and support we wouldn’t be able to boast our own successes this year. Starting in January with our outdoor Ice Rink to the Rugby World cup spectacular event your innovative design has helped us stay cutting edge. A special thanks to your ground crew for their ability and willingness to react to our ever changing schedules.”
Paul Footitt, Events Manager, Leeds City Council
“I wanted to thank you for all your work and prompt, clear communications on every element of the BBC Proms in the Park stage. I have felt throughout that you couldn’t do enough to help. The event on Saturday night was fabulous, with the BBC commenting on how amazing the stage looked both in the flesh and on TV. The audience also loved it! The onsite teams have commented also on how tidy everyone working on the stage build has been, from the boneyard down to leaving the welfare cabin spotless in order that Alexandra Burke could take up residence.”
Katie Duffy, Events Manager, Glasgow Life/Glasgow Events
“Thank you for the superb service on the events where we employed your services this year. It is so refreshing to be assured that your completion dates are 100% and that no matter what happens we can erect our screens as scheduled. Prior to Acorn, we were continually let down by suppliers waiting for the job to be completed but not with you. The Acorn team is great to work with, helpful and knowledgeable – when plans changed it isn’t an issue. The stage looked fantastic and it’s a credit to the Acorn team.”
Edward Elliott-Smith, Chairman, Lightmedia Displays
